Indian team’s winning campaign in the ICC ODI World Cup continues. The team captained by explosive opener Rohit Sharma has won all its 5 matches so far and is on top of the points table. Now Indian team has to face defending champion England on Sunday 29 October. Meanwhile, a big update has come out on the injury of the team’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
Hardik Pandya injured an ankle:
Team India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was injured during the World Cup match against Bangladesh. While trying to stop the ball, his left ankle got twisted, due to which he immediately left the field. This incident created concern in the minds of fans about the seriousness of the injury. Pandya underwent scans during the game and was later taken to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru under the care of a specialist doctor from London. Due to injury, he could not play the match against New Zealand.
The injury is not serious:
Despite fears of being away from the field for a long time, reports have now revealed that Hardik’s injury is actually ‘just a sprain’ and nothing serious. BCCI and the team management are closely monitoring Hardik’s progress and are optimistic about his speedy recovery. A senior BCCI official said, ‘Hardik should be available for selection in the Lucknow match but nothing can be said at the moment.’
Will he play against England or not:
The BCCI official did not give any confirmation on Hardik playing against England but it is believed that he will be given rest as a precaution. The team captained by Rohit Sharma would not want to take this risk right now. Anyway, there are Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj in the team who are performing well. Apart from this, considering the condition of England in the current tournament, the Indian team management will not want to take any risk.
Team India is on top:
Despite the absence of Hardik in the recent match against New Zealand, India managed to win. The team adopted a different strategy, in which Suryakumar Yadav was given a chance. Pacer Mohammed Shami performed strongly and took 5 wickets. Team India has topped the points table by winning 5 consecutive matches in the tournament. In the match against New Zealand, Mohammed Shami was given a chance while Shardul Thakur was dropped and Suryakumar Yadav was included in the Playing XI. Talking about England, the condition of the defending champion team is bad and it has won only 1 out of 4.
