Rohit Sharma’s golden journey as captain in IPL has ended. Mumbai Indians surprised everyone on Friday evening by appointing Hardik Pandya as their new captain for IPL 2024. However, the decision to remove Rohit, who made Mumbai champion five times, from the captaincy was taken during the World Cup 2023 itself.
Decision taken on Rohit’s captaincy in World Cup
Actually, Mumbai Indians had taken the decision to remove Rohit Sharma from the captaincy during the World Cup 2023 itself. According to reports, Rohit was also told that he will not be the captain of Mumbai in IPL 2024. Mumbai had told Rohit that Hardik Pandya would take charge of the team in the 17th season of the Indian Premier League. Rohit had also agreed to play under Hardik’s captaincy.
Hardik had placed a condition
When Mumbai Indians first approached Hardik Pandya for trade, Hardik had put a condition before his old team. Hardik said that he will return to the Mumbai Indians team only when the reins of the team are handed over to him.
According to reports, this condition of Hardik was accepted by Mumbai. Only after this Hardik was traded to Gujarat Titans. That means the decision to remove Rohit from the captaincy was taken long ago.
Rohit became champion five times
