The Indian cricket team is now gearing up for its next mission. Team India has arrived in Sri Lanka today for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Many young and new players have been given opportunities for this series. The special thing is that Suryakumar Jacob has been made the captain of this series. So, the interesting thing is that Suryakumar is the captain of the T20 team, but he is not even included in the ODI team.
Before leaving for Sri Lanka, Team India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar spoke to the media and tried to explain the incident. A press conference was held in Mumbai by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and new head coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of the Sri Lanka tour. When asked about Suryakumar Jacob, Ajit Agarkar clearly said that Suryakumar Jacob has not been discussed much in ODI.
He said that while Shreyas Iyer is returning to the ODI team, KL Rahul is also an important member of the ODI team. So Suryakumar had no place, so there was no need to discuss his name. Not only this, Rushav Pant is also going to return to the ODI team after a long gap.
This means, that even if Surya kumar was included in the squad, he would not have got a chance to play in the XI. Due to this reason, Suryakumar was not included in the ODI team. The way Suryakumar Jacob has batted in T20s over the last few years, his place has been confirmed. He has also been the number-one batsman in the ICC rankings for a long time.
But if we talk about ODI, Suryakumar was given many opportunities there, but he did not manage to make his place. It also raises the question that if Surya has the ability in T20, why is he being forced to play ODIs? Now that Ajit Agarkar has kept him in the T20I squad only, he will return to India after the T20I series is over.
