Indian batting unit struggled against Srilanka in the first T20 of the year where both the teams were playing the first match of the 3-match T20 series. The top order of the Indian team again flopped in this match.
The Indian team was at 46/3 and 94/5 and the team was under deep pressure because they were moving for such a low total but then Axar Patel and Deepak Hooda made a brilliant partnership for the 6th wicket which powered India to 162 runs.

Shubman Gill was beaten by Mahesh Theekshena:
Indian opener and young talented batter Shubman Gill was making his debut in today’s match. However, he didn’t get a good start to his career as he was out just after a few balls and was seen disappointed after the wicket.
He was beaten by a carrom ball of Mahesh Theekshena and that ball hits his pad and the umpire gave him out after a huge appeal from the Lankan team. Shubman Gill challenged this decision but the review was not able to save him and he has to walk back.

While chasing the target of 163 runs Srilankan team tried their best in the last to win the match but they were short by just 2 runs and the Indian team started 2023 with a win. There were many star performers for the side in this match.
