Rohit Sharma’s insistence snatched captaincy from Virat Kohli! Rohit had placed this big condition in front of BCCI
Rohit Sharma has been made the new captain of the ODI team. However, Virat Kohli was not in favor of leaving the captaincy of the ODI team. He was given 48 hours by the BCCI to relinquish the captaincy. When he did not announce it, the board itself gave information about it.
From the South Africa tour, Rohit will be seen taking charge of the ODI as captain. After the T20 World Cup, he was also made the captain of the T20 team. In the first T20 series, the team won 3-0 over New Zealand.
According to the news of Cricbuzz, Rohit Sharma had made a condition that he will take over the captaincy of the T20 team only when he is also given the captaincy of the ODI team. Due to this, the board had to take this decision in the end.
Earlier, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had said that he had asked Kohli not to give up the captaincy of the T20 team. But they did not agree. Due to this, the selectors handed over the captaincy to the same player for both T20 and ODI formats.
Virat Kohli, leaving the captaincy of the T20 team, said that he wants to continue captaining ODIs and Tests. The next ODI World Cup (World Cup 2023) is to be held in India itself. In such a situation, Kohli wanted to continue captaining the ODI team till then.
Meanwhile, according to reports, Kohli may withdraw from the ODI series for the tour of South Africa. However, the team for the tour has not been announced yet. For the Test series (India vs South Africa) starting from 26 December, Kohli has command of the team.
