Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag hopes that Virat Kohli will score many centuries in the World Cup and become the highest run-scorer of the tournament. After 2011, 2015, and 2019, Virat Kohli is all set to play in his fourth ODI World Cup. In the 2019 World Cup, Kohli scored 443 runs in 9 innings at an average of 55.37, which included five half-centuries. Sehwag told Cricbuzz, ‘Virat Kohli did not score a single century in the 2019 World Cup. This year I hope that he will score many centuries and be the highest run scorer in the tournament. Sehwag, a member of the 2011 World Cup winning team, said that Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma deserve to win the upcoming tournament. Rohit missed being a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team and is now the captain of the team when the tournament returns to home soil. Sehwag said, ‘These two (Rohit and Kohli) senior players deserve to win the World Cup. Rohit Sharma was very close to being selected for the 2011 World Cup but missed. Later he became the king of ODI, he deserves to win the World Cup trophy once because he is a brilliant player.’
The first match against Australia:
India, the 1983 and 2011 champions, will start its campaign against five-time champion Australia on October 8 at MA Chidambaram, Chennai. Sehwag wants Team India to end the drought of winning global trophies this year, which has been going on for a decade.
