The 1983 World Cup winning captain and one of the finest all-rounders of his era, Kapil Dev believes that the chances of Team India reaching the semi-finals in the T20 World Cup are just 30 per cent. This statement of Kapil has disappointed Indian fans and this is the reason why many fans are also trolling Kapil.

Kapil Dev has said that the success of Team India will depend on the number of their all-rounders. During a promotional event in Lucknow, Kapil Dev said, “What else do you want in a team other than an all-rounder who can win matches for a team not only in the World Cup but in all other matches or events? A cricketer like Hardik Pandya has been very useful for India. All-rounders are the key players of any team and they become the strength of a team. An all-rounder like Hardik gives Rohit Sharma the freedom to use the sixth bowler in the match. He is also a good batsman, bowler and fielder.”
Speaking further, Kapil said, “Even in our days, we had a lot of all-rounders in India’s team. In T20 cricket, a team that wins one match can lose the next. Talk about India’s chances of winning the World Cup. Very difficult to do. The issue is, will he be able to make it to the top four? I am worried about him making the top four, then only something can be said. For me, making a place in the top (last) four of India The probability is only 30%.”
Also when asked about Pandya being called another ‘Kapil Dev’, the former India captain said, “Even in our days, we had idols, we used to follow them. It’s good that young cricketers do it. New standards are being set. This is a very good sign for a team and I believe everyone should keep working hard to set very high standards.”
