Batting first, Bangladesh scored 334 runs for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs in centuries from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nazmul Shanto. In reply, Afghanistan could put only 245 runs on the scoreboard. As a result, Bangladesh won the match by 38 runs.

After this clash, if we talk about the Asia Cup 2023 points table, there is not much change in Group B after the victory of Bangladesh. However, this victory has increased Bangladesh’s chances of going to the Super-4. Actually, after facing defeat against Bangladesh, Afghanistan is going to face Sri Lanka on 5th September.
If the Afghanistan team loses this match, then Bangladesh will qualify for the Super-4. But if Sri Lanka is defeated in this match, then Bangladesh’s net run rate will decide, whether they can go to the knockout round or not. Pakistan has made a place in Super-4 from Group A.
