Yuvraj Singh, who was the Player of the Tournament in India’s 2011 World Cup winning campaign on home soil, believes that every member of the current team will have to handle the pressure and put their bodies at stake to win the upcoming 2023 World Cup. And you will have to give your everything. Let us tell you that it has been more than ten years since India won an ICC tournament, the last time India won the title was the 2013 Champions Trophy in England.
Yuvraj Singh cautioned Team India:
Yuvraj said in a conversation with IANS, ‘It has been a long time since we won the ICC trophy. We played two finals (of the World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023) and I think this could be the last World Cup for some people in the team. To win this World Cup, everyone will have to put their body at stake and give everything. The format is different and if you reach the semi-final stage, you will face pressure straight into the big match. So, I think it is also about dealing with pressure.’
These teams will become a threat to India:
India, the 1983 and 2011 champions, will start its campaign against five-time champion Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Yuvraj further said that Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and England can present a tough challenge for India in the World Cup. He said, ‘Australia has always been a strong team and has won many titles in the past also. He has the ability to win pressure matches. I also think that New Zealand is a very good team, while England is also a very good ODI team and South Africa is also performing well.’
Bowlers will have to make important contributions:
Yuvraj believes that the bowlers will play a decisive role in winning the match and expects the spinners to play a vital role in the middle overs, adding that dew will play a vital role during the contest. He said, ‘The thing is that most of the matches are starting in the afternoon. Most of the wickets in India are such that which a lot of runs can be scored. The weather is going to change in November. In some matches, it may swing, while dew may have an impact in the evening. Apart from this, you may get to see some wickets where the ball will spin. I always feel that spinners are such bowlers who will be very important in the middle overs. I think we have really good bowlers to take ten wickets. In this World Cup, bowlers will win you most of the matches.’
