Team India has been declared for Asia Cup 2023. BCCI didn’t show any haste in declaring the squad. The reason for this was KL Rahul. Since May 2023, due to injury, BCCI wanted KL Rahul out of cricket in the squad under any circumstances.
The team for the Asia Cup was declared only after the National Cricket Academy’s medical team received a positive report regarding Rahul’s fitness and he was included in it. Now Sanjay Bangar, the former batting trainer of the Indian cricket team, has given his opinion on the condition of his being in the playing XI.
Rahul should be in the playing XI on this condition:
Former all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has said that ‘KL Rahul has surely been included in the squad for the Asia Cup but he should get a chance in the playing XI only when he’s ready as a wicketkeeper. It’s necessary to have a wicket-keeper batsman in the top five batsmen so that the bowling options remain open for the team.’
Rahul was seen doing wicketkeeping:
Team India is presumably also understanding the importance of Sanjay Bangar’s statement. Two days before, a picture from the National Cricket Academy went viral in which KL Rahul was seen doing wicketkeeping. According to reports, he did wicketkeeping for a long time. This means that Ishaan Kishan’s card can be cut and Rahul can enter the playing XI as a wicket-keeper batsman.

The Indian cricket team has been looking for a batsman at number 4 and 5 for a long time who can finish the innings. At number 4, in a way, the name of Shreyas Iyer has been agreed upon. Rahul can be fed at number 5. To strengthen the middle order, Rahul is being removed from the opening and brought into the middle order. The reason for this is that he can bat well in the middle order like opening. In the last ODI series against Australia, he’d shown it by doing so.
